About the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine

Located within the Las Vegas Medical District, the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV graduated its first class of students in May of 2021. Fully accredited, the school currently has 240 medical students, 150 faculty physicians, and more than 300 medical residents and fellows. With a new medical education building opening in 2022, including state-of-the-art medical classrooms and simulation center, the school continues to grow.

With a group practice, UNLV Health, which provides care to more than 10,000 patients per month in its 17 primary care and specialty care clinics, and its partner hospitals, the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV is transforming healthcare in Southern Nevada.

POSITION

The successful candidate should function as an advanced practitioner in GI patient care, collaborate in the coordination of care across specialties and provide leadership and collaborative effort in research, education and other scholarly activities including participation in investigator-initiated research studies and clinical trials, of gastrointestinal and hepatic disease. The position will have an active role in clinical, research, and educational areas within the School of Medicine and Faculty Practice Plan. This is a non-tenured/non-tenure track position.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the following:

Service: 

  • Provide leadership and support of the GI service at UNLV-affiliated hospitals, particularly the University Medical Center (UMC) in direct patient care, consultation, endoscopy and other procedures.
  • The candidate may also assist in development of outreach to smaller regional community and rural hospitals and practices to facilitate referral and safe transfer of patients with gastrointestinal disease for a higher level of care.
  • The successful candidate participates in the outpatient gastroenterology procedures and clinical practice.

Teaching:

  • The candidate will participate in educational activities for all levels of trainees, including medical students, interns/residents and fellows to promote an academic environment for learning the principals and practice of gastroenterology.  This will include interactive conferences, didactic lectures, case presentation and discussion on consultation rounds as well as endoscopic training of GI Fellows for the basic and advanced procedures.
  • Candidates will be expected to provide mentorship and active participation in research and other scholarly activities related to the ACGME-accredited GI Fellowship program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position requires an MD, or DO, from an accredited institution
  • Completed an ACGME-approved Internal Medicine Residency Program
  • Completed a Gastroenterology fellowship prior to start date
  • Be Board Certified in Internal Medicine
  • The candidate must be ABIM Board Certified in Gastroenterology prior to employment commencing
  • Must obtain an unrestricted Nevada Medical license prior to start date of employment
  • Must have malpractice insurance

Preference will be given to those applicants that have:

  • Additional advanced training and/or experience in Gastroenterology or Endoscopy
  • Experience in academic-based clinical care and research
  • Experience performing advanced endoscopy procedures in addition to standard GI procedures, such as:
  • EUS
  • ERCP
  • EMR\ESD
  • Other advanced technique and interventions based on training/experience
