We're going to ask you the most important question of your life. Your answer will reveal whether you will have joy or anguish throughout eternity.
Are you saved? The question does not depend on your membership in a church. Nor does it depend on how much you give to the poor or on how good a person you are, but are you saved? If you’re not sure, consider what the Bible has to say.
No one goes to heaven nor receives blessings from God without being saved. Jesus said to Nicodemus in the Bible's book of John, Chapter 3, verse 7, Do not marvel that I said to you, “You must be born again.” In the Bible, God says over and again, there is only one way to be saved. His plan of salvation is both direct and simple.
First, you must understand that every one of us is a sinner. In the book of Romans, chapter 3, verses 10 and 23, we read, ... there is none righteous, no, not one... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The book of Romans, chapter 6, verse 23 continues, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I Peter chapter 2, verse 24 says, ... who Himself (Jesus) bore our sins in His own body on the tree (cross), that we, having died to sins might live for righteousness.... Jesus had to
die in your place in order to shed His blood for you. 1 Peter chapter 2, verse 25 continues, ... for you were like sheep going astray..., sheep which, if left to themselves, would soon die without their shepherd. As Leviticus chapter 17, verse 11 says, For the life of the flesh is in the blood ... for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul (or pays for sins).
Hebrews chapter 9, verse 22 continues, ... and without shedding of blood there is no remission (or forgiveness of sins). God says in His Word that Jesus became sin for us, taking our sins on Himself. Jesus took on the sins of countless numbers of unbelievers throughout the centuries, both past and future, and died in their place.
In regard to sin James chapter 1, verse 15 reads, ... Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. Spiritual death means a complete separation from God in the eternal blackness of hell. Yes, hell is eternal, horrible, and according to Jesus, it’s an absolute certainty for those who have not put their faith in Him.
Because God loves the unbeliever so much, He sent Jesus Christ, who is God in human form, to take on Himself the penalty
of men's sins. Jesus died on a cross for the sins for which every unbeliever deserves to be judged. In the Bible, the book of II Corinthians chapter 5, verse 21 says to those who believe, For he made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Yes, God tells us that we must first recognize that we are sinners. In the Gospel of Luke Chapter 18, verse 13, we read, And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God be merciful to me, a sinner! Sinners must repent of their sins, with the honest intent of changing their sinful ways. If you remain an unrepentant sinner, you will die in your sins with no hope and without Christ.
Second, in the Bible's book of Acts, chapter 16, verses 30-31, we read that the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas, What must I do to be saved? So they said, believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved .... Jesus will be your substitute, but only if you ask Him. In asking you must fully trust in His redemptive work on the cross. Because sin is found in every heart, God invites you to pray now. We urge you not to put off this prayer until tomorrow! The book of II Corinthians, chapter 6, verse 2 reads, ... For now is the favorable time, now is the day of salvation.
To be saved, you must personally believe that Jesus died for you, taking on or bearing your sins. You must believe He died, was buried and then rose from the dead. If you truly believe this and call upon the name of the Lord, you will be saved. As Romans chapter 10, verse 13 says, For whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. When you trust Him and believe in His Word, you can know by faith that you're saved!
You may ask, "Is that all I must do to be saved?” Yes, that’s all. Thanks be to God that many have come to Christ through His plan of faith. If you are not sure of the meaning of these words, reread them, along with your Bible, until you are sure of their meaning.
Never trust in your feelings, because your feelings will change. Trust instead in the promises of God
revealed in His written Word. His promises will always remain steadfast and true. I Peter Chapter 1, verses 24-25 reads, ... The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the Word of the Lord endures forever.
We also read in Matthew chapter 6, verse 19, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth.... Luke chapter 12, verse 34, tells us why, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Finally, consider the question posed in the book of Matthew, chapter 16, verse 26, For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Earthly treasures have no eternal value. They’re subject to the passage of time and will soon disappear. Your soul has infinitely more value than all the treasures of the world.
Assurance of salvation can only come from reading the Bible. Jesus in chapter 10 of the book of Matthew, verses 32-33, says to every believer, Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in Heaven. But whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
