¿Sabía usted que la guardia de La Tumba del Soldado Desconocido, situada en Arlington, Virginia, los E.E.U.U., se relevan cada 30-60 minutos? En una ceremonia formal, el que está de guardia dice simplemente, “ordenes siguen sin cambio.” El nuevo guardia responde, “ordenes reconocidas.” Este intercambio entre la guardia ha ocurrido cada 30-60 minutos por los últimos 60 años. De esta manera el sitio conmemorativo del soldado desconocido se honra y se protege. Jesucristo, que guarda la fe cristiana, también ha dado una orden a sus seguidores. Él dió esta orden momentos antes que él volvió para estar con su padre celestial según lo registrado en el libro de Marcos, capítulo 16, versiculos 15 y 16 de la versión Reina-Valera 1960 de la Biblia:
Y les dijo: Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura. El que creyere y fuere bautizado, será salvo; mas el que no creyere, será condenado.
Hasta hoy esta orden de Jesús, nuestro Comandante, permanece sin cambiar. Después de ser salvado de la pena del pecado, los creyentes necesitan reconocer la orden del Comandante como algo que siga naturalmente su nuevo nacimiento. Pero las cosas a menudo salen mal cuando nos complacen las cosas de este mundo. Después de poco tiempo, no hay sentido de preocupacion. Pronto no se hace caso, se reduce al mínimo, o se olvida esta orden de Jesús.
Frecuentemente creyentes experimentan olas de un entusiasmo Cristiano, seguido de un periodo largo de pereza e indeferiencia. Es como si compartir la fe de uno fuera una opción para el creyente más bien que un mandamiento. Solamente la muerte física libera al creyente de la responsabilidad de compartir su fe con los demás. Cualquier decision de no compartir su fe cuando está dada la oportunidad (el pecado de la omisión), es deseo de desobediencia deliberada, según lo registrado en el libro de Santiago, capítulo 4, versiculo 17 de la Biblia:
Y al que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace, le es pecado. (Véase también a Juan 9:41 y 2 Pedro 2:21)
En la vida Cristiana hay una batalla que se lucha continuamente con las fuerzas del mal. Pero los Cristianos nunca deben luchar esta batalla bajo su propia fuerza. Empiezan a combatir contra el enemigo, dependiendo en la fuerza y el poder de Jesucristo, Él en quién depositan su confianza. En el libro de Efesios, capítulo 6, versiculos 10-18 leemos:
Por lo demás, hermanos míos, fortaleceos en el Señor, y en el poder de su fuerza. Vestíos de toda la armadura de Dios, para que podáis estar firmes contra las asechanzas del diablo. Porque no tenemos lucha contra sangre y carne, sino contra principados, contra potestades, contra los gobernadores de las tinieblas de este siglo, contra huestes espirituales de maldad en las regiones celestes.
Por tanto, tomad toda la armadura de Dios, para que podáis resistir en el día malo, y habiendo acabado todo, estar firmes. Estad, pues, firmes, ceñidos vuestros lomos con la verdad, y vestidos con la coraza de justicia, y calzados los pies con el apresto del evangelio de la paz. Sobre todo, tomad el escudo de la fe, con que podáis apagar todos los dardos de fuego del maligno. Y tomad el yelmo de la salvación, y la espada del Espíritu, que es la palabra de Dios; orando en todo tiempo con toda oración y súplica en el Espíritu, y velando en ello con toda perseverancia y súplica por todos los santos;
Pocos de nosotros tienen, o tendrán jamás, la aptitud de predicación de Billy Graham. Sin embargo, ese no nos exime de la responsabilidad de compartir nuestra fe con los demás. La iglesia, prepararando la gente a compartir las buenas noticias con los demás, actúa como motivador. Desgraciadamente, algunos tan llamados Cristanos se encuentran vagando por la vida buscando solamente la seguridad financiera, la popularidad, y el éxito material. Demasiado pronto, estos "profesadores" Cristianos pasan de vida hasta la eternidad sin obtener la razón suprema de vivir - que es personalmente conocer al único Dios verdadero.
Una vez que usted verdaderamente conozca a Dios, usted incurre en una responsabilidad para toda la vida; una responsabilidad de compartir su fe con los demás. Orders from above
Did you know that the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located in Arlington, Virginia, USA, is changed every 30-60 minutes? In a formal ceremony, the guard on-duty simply says, “orders remain unchanged.” The new guard responds, “orders acknowledged.” This exchange between guards has gone on every 30-60 minutes for the past 60 years. In this way the memorial site of the Unknown Soldier is honored and protected. Jesus Christ, who guards the Christian faith, has also given an order to His followers. He gave this order just before He returned to be with His Father in heaven as recorded in the book of Mark, chapter 16, verses 15 and 16 of the New Living Translation of the Bible:
And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.”
To this day this order by Jesus, the Christian's Commander, remains unchanged. After being saved from the penalty of sin, believers need to acknowledge their Commander's order as something that naturally follows their new birth. But things often go awry as complacency sets in. Before long, there is no sense of urgency. Soon this order from Jesus is ignored, minimized, or forgotten.
All too often believers experience waves of Christian enthusiasm, only to be followed by the inertia of long-term indifference. It’s as if sharing one’s faith is an option for the believer rather than a command. Only physical death frees a believer from the responsibility of sharing his or her faith with others. Any decision not to share one’s faith when given the opportunity (the sin of omission), is willful disobedience as recorded in the book of James, chapter 4, verse 17 of the Bible:
Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. See also John 9:41 and 2 Peter 2:21)
In the Christian life there is a battle continuously being fought with the forces of evil. But Christians are never to fight this battle under their own power. They engage the enemy, relying on the strength and power of Jesus Christ, the one in whom they place their trust. In the book of Ephesians, chapter 6, verses 10-18 we read:
A final word: Be strong with the Lord’s mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be fully prepared. In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.
Few of us have, or ever will have, the preaching power of Billy Graham. However, that doesn’t release us from the responsibility to share our faith with others.
